Benefits of Membership

How The PPLA Was Formed

The PPLA was conceived at INTERPHEX in March 2001 at a gathering of industry participants convened by Vijuk Equipment and Nexfor Fraser Papers.  Inspired by a highly informative speaker program, a number of companies teamed to form a Founding Committee chartered to investigate the formation of an industry trade association.

The Founding Committee met three times during the following six months.  As a result of the founders' investigation, the PPLA was incorporated in September 2001.

Why The PPLA Was Formed

The PPLA was formed to address key industry challenges on behalf of its members. The challenges:
bulletThe Food and Drug Administration is considering  new regulations that may greatly change printed inserts for drug products.
bulletIndustry and trade are lobbying to replace printed patient information with electronic labeling via the Internet.
bulletAccurate, accessible patient information is badly needed yet lacking.  The high cost of errors in drug administration is mitigated by printed literature.
bulletThe pharmaceutical printing industry has had no ally representing its interests to regulatory bodies.  A dedicated resource for monitoring critical legislative developments did not exist.

Why Join The PPLA

Throughout the PPLA's inception, the Founding Committee applied a single principle in deciding whether to form, and fund, a trade association: Are the benefits to members worth the costs?

The answer was a resounding YES.
